BHU on the Rise: Cut‑offs Climb, VRDL Lab Earns NABL Accreditation, Smart ID Rollout Advances

Introduction

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) marked July 5, 2025 as a watershed day on campus with several major developments: the CUET‑UG 2025 results are out, expected admission cut‑offs are rising modestly, the VRDL (Viral Research & Diagnostic) Lab has obtained NABL accreditation, and BHU continues modernisation drives with smart ID cards and new online programmes. Here’s a deep dive into what’s unfolding at one of India’s most venerable institutions.

CUET‑UG 2025 Results Announced, Cut‑offs Climb Slightly

CUET‑UG 2025 results were released today (July 4), confirming aspirants’ ranks and paving the way for BHU’s undergraduate admissions.

Commerce streams such as B.Com (Hons) and Financial Markets are anticipated to see cut‑off increases, reflecting unchanged or growing demand.

Science programmes, especially in Maths and Biology, are expected to have moderate hikes, again pointing to intensified competition.

Professional courses like B.Tech in Food and Dairy Technology likely maintain cut‑offs close to last year’s levels.

Although official cut‑off numbers haven’t been released yet, number-crunching based on last year’s data shows:

Course CUET 2024 Cut‑off CUET 2025 Expected
B.Com (Hons) 495 490–510
B.Com (Hons) Financial Markets 483 480–490
B.A. LLB (Hons) 510 490–520
B.Sc (Hons) Maths Group 331–443 350–450

Students should:

Log in to the NTA site to download CUET scorecards.

Monitor the BHU admission portal for official cut‑offs and counselling details.

Keep documentation ready (scorecard, ID, category certificate, etc.) for counselling and merit-based seat allocation.

VRDL Lab at IMS Achieves NABL Accreditation

The Viral Research & Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) at BHU’s Institute of Medical Sciences has earned NABL accreditation under ISO 15189:2012, marking a prestigious milestone.

The lab was crucial during the COVID‑19 pandemic, processing nearly 900,000 tests, and conducted around 8,000 dengue, JE, and other infectious disease tests in the past 18 months.

Accreditation validates VRDL’s technical competence and quality, and Prof Gopal Nath, principal investigator, along with his team, has been praised for this achievement.

This sets a new standard in medical diagnostics at BHU and enhances its reputation among top-tier medical educational institutions.
