“Kaanta Laga” Sensation Shefali Jariwala Dies at 42

A Nation Grieves Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Mumbai, 28 June 2025 — In a tragic turn of events, actress and model Shefali Jariwala — widely known as the “Kaanta Laga Girl” and a vibrant presence on reality television — passed away late Friday night, June 27, following a sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 42. The news, confirmed by hospital officials and the Mumbai Police, has sent shockwaves across the entertainment industry and beyond.

According to preliminary reports, Shefali was at her Andheri residence in suburban Mumbai on Friday evening when she complained of acute chest pain. Her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, along with three others, rushed her to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital. Unfortunately, she was declared dead on arrival — doctors confirmed she had already succumbed to cardiac arrest before reaching the facility.

Security guard Shatrughan, stationed at the society gate, recounted to NDTV that Parag arrived on his bike around 9 pm, and Shefali was rushed into the ambulance by 10:30 pm. A friend later arrived to break the devastating news, and police and forensic teams responded promptly.

Police Investigation & Medical Reports

Mumbai Police received the alert around 1 am and quickly secured Shefali’s residence in Andheri. A forensic team conducted a thorough sweep and police have questioned household staff, including her cook, while awaiting formal results from the Cooper Hospital post-mortem.

Though initial speculation points toward cardiac arrest, authorities are treating the case with due procedural seriousness. As of now, no suspicious circumstances have been reported, and investigators await the auto‑opsy to confirm the cause of death.

The sudden news devastated colleagues and fans alike. Actress Bharti Singh, singer Himanshi Khurana, actor Kushal Tandon, and comedian Kiku Sharda have all publicly expressed grief.

A Life of Spotlight & Struggle

Shefali, born on 15 December 1982 in Mumbai, shot to fame with the incendiary music video “Kaanta Laga” in 2002. Her bold, confident persona made her a cultural icon.

She ventured into films, starring in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, and later debuted on the small screen in popular shows including Bigg Boss 13 (2019), Nach Baliye, Boogie Woogie, and the Alt Balaji web series “Baby Come Naa”.

Off-camera, Shefali was candid about her health. In interviews, she opened up about coping with epilepsy, which first manifested when she was 15. She’d experienced episodes in classrooms and backstage, attributing them to stress and anxiety, but had been seizure-free for nine years through natural remedies and strong support from loved ones.

Just days before her sudden passing, she posted a glamorous Instagram shoot in a shimmering jumpsuit, captioning it, “Bling it on baby.” That post went viral — a bittersweet reminder of a life full of flair and energy.
